Look Du Jour

L’agence dress

Balenciaga sandals

Sorrelle Teresa hoops

Never thought I would wear a “Deep V Neck” ever again, but this dress met every qualification to disregard that thought. I wanted to keep it more laid back, so I paired it with some low heeled sandals to keep it true to me. Our dry Summer nights here in CA, inspire me to be more daring! How about you you guys?

Experimenting with Summer layering-I picked up this vintage blouse at Assembly LA-its the perfect lightweight button down in a dreamy peach tone. I love the contrast between sheer and solid fabrics, and was determined to, as Tim Gun would say, “make it work”.

I introduce you to Sandy Liang, my newest current obsession. Words can’t even describe what I feel for this young pup fresh out of design school. Her SS15 collection is a 90’s dream. Now excuse me while I go dye my hair 5 shades of blue..or pink.

my first Ted Talk (if I were invited to give one)

IMG_5556Look Du Jour for a TED Talk

vintage pleated midi skirt

Intentionally Blank Honcho sling-backs

Why I want to give a Ted Talk:

I would be thrilled to be invited to give a TedTalk . I’ve watched at least a hundred of these on the Internet and each of them has changed me forever in a good way!  The three that I’ve watched at least 5x each are by Tavi Gevinson on female role models, Susan Caine on why the world needs introverts , and Tony Robbins on why we do what we do .  I now realize I’m not crazy and my brain is working exactly as it is supposed to, thanks to these forward thinking and brilliant speakers!

What would be the subject of my Ted Talk:

Bullying is the number one thing on my mind today.  It is a subject stirs my anxiety and gives me heartache to know that there are kids out there in the world who are currently suffering just as I did more than a decade ago.  When I was in middle school, my fellow classmates bullied me mercilessly and called me names such as “animal” because I was a little disheveled (I hadn’t learned the art of fashion yet) and “dimental” as a play on my last name (Dimesky).  I never told a single sole: not my parents, my teachers, my friends, my brother, nor anyone at all.  I simply suffered in silence, all alone, soaking my pillow every night with my tears.

How could I help someone with my Ted Talk:

In my talk I would tell my audience how important it is to reach out to every child you know and to talk to them about bullying.  I would tell them to spread the word how important it is to stop the cycle and there is no reason for anyone to suffer the humiliation and lowered self-esteem caused by this cruel phenomenon.  I would show them the video by Barack Obama, the president of the United States, who claims it is unequivocally wrong, not to be tolerated, and that we must all work together to stop it. I would fervently address my audience and ask that they pledge to take a stand and become an advocate for kids who are victimized and need the help of an adult who has the power to do something.

I would finish my Ted Talk with one of the most beautiful and compelling anti- bullying poems ever written by Shane Koyczan. Before walking off the stage, I would tell everyone to contact me if they know any child who needs someone to talk to.  It will be my pleasure to be that powerful voice which I had never known.

What I would wear and why:

Since this talk is extremely important and includes a call to action, I want to present myself as both an empowering and feminine woman.  To achieve my look, my shoes should be black with a low heel.  The shoes will help me to look steady, grounded, and unwavering as I speak.  My choice for a skirt is a long ivory midi to represent my feminine and classic side.  A long sleeved black or ivory buttoned down blouse with collar (still searching for the perfect one) will be the final piece!

Would you ever like to give a TED Talk?  What were your experiences as a child? Were you ever bullied?  What subject would you choose for your TED Talk?  Is there anyone you would like to help in dealing with a difficult situation?  Let’s hear your point of view- please leave a comment!

(Alexa Chung for AG “Honey” dress, Sandro oxfords, Illesteva sunnies)

One of my all time favorite style icons is hands down, Alexa Chung. Everything she wears is quirky, but chic and, she is never afraid to be daring with her personal style! As you can imagine I was utterly stoked when she co-designed a collection with AG. Unfortunately, I slept on getting my favorite dress when the collection launched a couple of months ago, and without fail, it sold out. But….low and behold, my prince charming by the name of Ebay, had the key to my heart-the dress I had been searching for! Sometimes, you find things in places you’d never think to look-just reminding you lovely readers that Ebay NEVER fails!! :)

Love,

Lauren

P.S. *Always try mixing a print with a basic/solid color-it adds dimension to your casual look-and overall, gives your outfit a more personalized feel.

SHOP SUPER STREET interview

Hey guys!

I had the privilege of interviewing a very inspiring young woman last month. Lucy Akin is the creator and owner behind one of the hottest online retailers in Los Angeles. Her site, SHOP SUPER STREET , is one of my favorite online boutiques because she always has the most unique & talented new designers like Hyein Soo and Sandy Liang. Not to mention, the site is super clean and full of eye candy that can leave you sifting endlessly through her chic (and I mean chiccc!!) collection.

Lauren: Tell us about yourself, Super Street, and how you got the ball rolling on SST?

Lucy: I have been interested in fashion pretty much my whole life. My parents would catch me lying on my back as a toddler just staring at my shoes for a couple hours a day. So it was a no-brainer for me to pursue a career in fashion. Shop Super Street first came to me when I saw a need for a mix between skateboard brands and high-fashion. Mixing the two was so prevalent within the fashion world but nothing was reflecting this need online yet. I loved brands like Huf, Odd Future, Bianca Chandon and Palace but could never find them on any women’s fashion sites. So when I was ready to pull the trigger on my own company, I reached out to my network to see who would support me. I was surprised with how much people were willing to work with me and believed in my project. And that’s how it all started…

Lauren: What do you think sets your company apart from other major retailers(online and in store)?

Lucy: I think what is special about my site is that I’m offering unexpected items on a site with very high-end brands. I’m mixing Moschino with Odd Future, which are two very different pricepoints but in my opinion they share the same message. The girl who is carrying a Moschino Barbie backpack would totally wear a sweatshirt with a big donut on it from Odd Future. She also is mixing in a Baron Von Fancy lighter or a Mansur Gavriel bucket bag. Each item is super special but shares the same message across the site.

Lauren: Do you think being a buyer for Satine for several years has influenced your choice of current designers featured on SST?

Lucy: After working at Satine, I have a really great grasp on what girls are drawn to. I had the privilege of buying for a very fashionable set who shopped at Satine in Los Angeles and I understand what things they like and what brands they are after. Brands like Moschino and Rochas have a cult following and being able to represent them online with my brand mix has been great.

Lauren: What do you want people to know about Super Street?

Lucy: I really get a lot of enjoyment out of providing cool items to girls who are excited about the mix on my site. I think what I want people to know is that each item has been specially thought out and brought to the site with the hopes of someone getting it and loving it forever. It means a lot to me that so many people have found pieces from me that they made the decision to add to their wardrobes.

Thank you Lucy for taking the time to interview with us!

(Acne Studios mock stud jacket/jeans/denim shirt & Isabel Marant heels)

In my opinion, one of the most important pieces to have is a moto jacket. Honestly, and this sounds kind of silly…but the excitement you get when finding your dream leather is the equivalent to all of your childhood dreams of Disney Land. Ha! But, seriously though….

After you find your dream moto jacket-short or long, loose or fitted, vintage or new…you will soon realize all of your combination possibilities with this new guy!

What to wear with your moto:

1. Wear a classic pump/wedge to elevate the look (think 90’s GUESS ads)

2. If you’re more of a laid back kinda gal- pair with black cropped trousers & a pair of VANS

3. Try adding a soft-blue chambray accent to the look for a eye-catching contrast

I’d love to hear your comments on what motos or leather jackets are in your closet!

Cheers to finding the perfect one! (if you don’t already have your perfect baby)

Inspired by the 70s?

IMG_2031IMG_2004IMG_1961IMG_2014IMG_2016

(Lykke Wullf overalls, Orla Kiely X Clark shoes, Illesteva sunnies)

4 things you need to achieve a 70s look:

1. Roundish sunglasses or cat-eye glasses.

2. Anything floral print-this can be details in your shoes, hair, or scarf.

3. A wide leg trouser or jean.

4. Most importantly- a confident & care-free attitude!

Voi-la! You have achieved your 70s vibe!!

So I just found my favorite new line of dresses. Dawn is produced here in Los Angeles and all of the dresses are made from 100% recycled vintage fabrics. Eco fashion at its finest for sure! Plus, they only make a limited run of each special style!

Just a quick post for today, I am off to Vegas for a couple of days to celebrate our 2nd year anniversary with my boyfriend Tommy!

Hope you all have a fantastic week!! xoxo
